What killed the aro and the gar? I assumed it would have been your flowerhorn, but it may have been the Salvini or the Texas?

If you get a big Chalceus, he should be ok, but anytime you try to keep aggressive species as "community fish" or with fish that are actually considered community fish it's always a gamble.

How about an African Pike (Hepsetus odoe)? These might be a better fit for your current stock, but you may eventually need a bigger tank.

I grew out a FH in a peaceful small cichlid community and he grew up pretty peaceful. of course when he hit 7" i moved him, but until then he was very calm. i'm not saying you should do it, I'm just saying how it worked out for me.

Also chalceus are too fast to get bullied, they eat a lot and grow very fast so they will usually not be a target for bullying. plus they occupy zones of water that the cichlids don't really consider their territory

I have a flowerhorn in with a mix of cichlids right now. Soon She will go into the 600 with all the fish. I like her color and She seems like any other fish. She is 6 inches and spent the rest of her time I know of alone. I kinda hope She wants to mate with my Jack Dempsey

I'm not sure which one killed my fish. The aro got taken out overnight and the gar while i was at work. I probably won't b keeping the flowerhorn 2 long. I only have him because i asked my lady 2 pick up a red Texas cichlid and i don't know WHAT the hell petsmart sold her. When i took it back the manager offered me a flowerhorn and i accepted. I don't think he's a good quality tho (no hump) so i might b giving him away.Chalceus like to swim in schools right? I'm not 2 familiar with them. Doing some research now
