Logic would suggest some of the smaller parachromis genus might be suitable. Motaguensis, loisellei or friedrichsthalii.

:iagree:... but motaguens have a very bad temper problem as well with large enough teeth to back it up, my loisellei is alot more mild temperd and mostly keeps to itself...

Motaguese in my limited experience are super aggressive. I'd probably recommend Loisellei or Freddy if you go with Parachromis but they're not "jag look alikes". Not that cubans are either but some can get a pretty cool jag like pattern.

Well the OP stated something that looks as close to a Jag as possible. Parachromis genus fish will have a similar body shape, but color and pattern are not close.

seriously?? lol....mota and freddy look much more like a jag than a cuban does. ;)

ok so a freddy or mota(whatever that is) would be just as good as a cuban? so its really whichever one i can find? also where can i get a mota or freddy or cuban?

I've never owned a cuban but I've owned a Mota and he was a trouble maker for the most part and not such a great commnity tankmate. Both females I've owned were unbearably aggressive. Mota's are very cool fish in their own way though and if I had a separate tank I might have kept this guy, he was a real looker. Not all RTM's look as nice as this one, you could get an average joe. Overall, I think Jags with perfect patterns are more spectacular showpieces at full size.
