i think im buying a mota, or maybe a freddy, what does a freddy look like, anyone got pix?

With alot of the yellow coloring?

loisellei is the one with the most yellow. freddy's are a yellowish/gold generally and gold motas are similar in color to the gold morph of jag. Also body shape, mouth shape etc of a mota, freddy or loisellei are going to be much closer to a jag than a cuban.

It depends on what traits the OP favors in the Jags. For overall body shape, head and mouth, structure, and temperment, stay in parachromis. But if its the coloration and pattern, I think the Cubans are closer looking to jags then anything in the parachromis genus.
Just my opinion. Ive never really been too into the Parachromis though.

I've never owned a cuban but I've owned a Mota and he was a trouble maker for the most part and not such a great commnity tankmate. Both females I've owned were unbearably aggressive. Mota's are very cool fish in their own way though and if I had a separate tank I might have kept this guy, he was a real looker. Not all RTM's look as nice as this one, you could get an average joe. Overall, I think Jags with perfect patterns are more spectacular showpieces at full size.

But being honest, anyone would have to admit that is a very nice RTM! If you were really trying to be conceited you should have mentioned the Clown Loaches in the back

Cubans are great. Much better and more nice looking than jags. Super hardy too!! Temperament is similar between the species I'd say. I miss mine!
