I would have to say this is the closest to what I say happened. The rays are new and young and startle easier than once established. Whether it was the other ray or someone or something walking by the tank etc it probably took off and grabbed the filter or maybe even the heater but to grab and tear it not burn it... Either take general filter pad that is "soft" and make sure its very porous and wrap it around and use a rubberband or just stuff a cylinder prefilter over it like a mag pump comes with.. you get the idea. if it still eats it will heal and heal faster than you think but may leave some scarring worst case but hell scars give anything characterfastfreddy;2623754; said:I'm sure it slammed itself into one of the filters.
