Anyone mountain bike or do downhill?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used to be really big into mountain biking in high school. Started with a trek 4500 then got a my uncles old trek 9700 which was part of the oclv carbon series. Similiar to the new 9.8s and what not. Really light hardtail frames. I stopped riding as much once I got to school in Pittsburgh because nothing really near the school. Without a car the first year couldnt really drive anywhere to get to some nice trails

Got my truck up here the end of last year and this year Im trying to get back into it. Think Im going to use the 9700 as more of a cc/training bike or maybe just use it as a road bike and might end up buying a trek fuel or something along those lines. I love trek and by joining the cycling club here you get almost 50% off trek bikes and 30% off just about everything else. Club fee is like 60$ so its a great deal. Just have to look into it.

If anyone knows of some good place to mountain bike near pittsburgh let me know please!!

Ahhhh Mike I wish I saw this one coming! I just sold my 07 Specialized Demo 9 Pro a few weeks ago to free up some funds :( . I regret it more than anything.

Diablo Freeride is sick!

I have an old old giant iguana hardtail. I used to xc race back in high school, wasn't too bad either. Last year I was meeting up wit ha bunch of guys that did mostly freeride (a lot of Specialized Big Hits in the group) and I used to be able to keep up with them pretty well, just couldn't do things like ride full on into stone walls and 18" logs. I don't have anybody to ride with now so this year was all road riding.

what was that park or what ever up the street from your parents house mike??? i remember thinking that would be a nice place to ride... some kind of state park??

yeah we have a few of them and thats where I am doing most of my riding and getting used to the bike for now. I have like 3 state parks within 10 min from their house

Haha nice...I just picked up a Lemond Zurich with Rolf vector comp wheels for like 500 bucks...new road rig. I'd like to pick up a new mountain bike but I'd need to actually start riding again to justify the cost...

Living in the Midwest doesn't warrant a fully suspended bike, not exactlly mountainous. I ride an old (94') Giant Cadex. I've got about 5K miles on it and it is still going strong. Butted Al. frame that is tough as nails. looking to upgrade soon and putting slicks on the old girl, but can't justify dropping a couple grand on a new bike. I feel that money could be spent on a decent fishing boat or PWC. Still, love to ride and fall is the best time. Cool morning temps. and sunny days are my ideal day.
