It seems everyone feeds their gars feeders. I've never done this, at all. I'm just wondering because in every other fish people say don'tfeed feeders because they carry parasites, etc.

I feed pellets, earthworms, shrimp, stuff like that. Never store bought feeders. Anyone else not feed them feeders.

i don't feed feeders to anything...

mine always ate pellets thankfully. i have heard some people say they couldnt get theirs too tho.

Mine will eat just about anything, but I like to give feeders occasionally for that little burst of excitement they give the fish. I just think its good for them to be able to catch a live fish every now and then. All my feeders get treated with anti-parasite medication, and I've never had any problems arise from feeding feeders, so I don't worry about it.

Mostly I use feeders for the younger gar that aren't taking other foods. Once they accept other foods, I phase out feeders to just an occasional snack.

I feed gars to my feeders...... doesn't always work out the way I want :(

Two of my gars love pellets. One of them will even pick up algae wafers off of the gravel and eat them. The other one, though, refuses to go off of live. He only has one eye, and I think that has something to do with it. Like he doesn't trust us or something. Unfortunately, they're all in the same tank, so the other guys get some when he gets them, so I have to QT enough so that he always gets some to eat. It's kind of a pain, and if I'd have known it was going to refuse non-live, I may not have bought him, but I've never had a one-eyed fish before, so I didn't realize how different it was.

My one gar had no problem eating pellets and the other one will eat nothing but feeders, rosy minnows, crayfish,or any fancy fish ive tried putting in a little to small lol.
