Anyone NOT use water conditioner/prime ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
even on a well i've always use conditioner.. if not for chrorine the heavy metals we have in our wells here. not sure how it goes over there.. but here it's pretty easy to get a diagnostics done on your well, and the sewage plants should have water quality numbers for you. otherwise full work up kits aren't expensive ( iir here they are 20$, they test for just about everything. we had elevated levels or arsenic in our water. I wouldn't drink it even after it went threw a system.. and i surely wasn't going to expose my fish to it.) imo the greater danger are heavy metals in water not neccisarily chlorine. I look at it this way.. if i wouldn't even drink it.. i wouldn't expect my fish to live in it.

Sometimes I run out and too lazy to go get more so I don't use any but I run my tap through a cu.ft. catalytic carbon bottle.

Normally I use Kordon's Amquel+plus, wouldn't trust anything else, especially during season changes when chloramines are high.

Just be wary bc different times of the year chlorines/chloramines are higher. During the summer you can smell the chlorine in our shower water. Our water here is almost like well water just heavily treated its hell on fish

Prime is so cheap you would have to be crazy to risk it IMO. If you hate it that much set up a water filter the ones used for chlorine are fairly cheap

I agree johno. Just so happens that my friend keeps thousands of £ of black rays and gets away with it.

I once ran out of prime didn't realize until I finished the water change and a week later I lost a healthy fat tiger just like that

I even ran out to the store after and got some but it was possible that the few hours of chlorine exposure did something to that ray. After wards my flower stressed him enough he just went belly up.fat and all

Sorry to hear bout that..
I recall from your posts that your water is quite bad straight out of tap. This probably exacerbated the problem.
Poor tiger

I always use conditioner now. I once did a water change on my pleco tank and forgot I had run out of prime. When I was done I lost 4 plecos almost immediately. Watching them swim erradically and die was very hard. I was lucky my 7 year old goldie survived.
