Anyone Read?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
@cms: At this point, its like an hour's read, why not? I would.

@jfritts91: Robert Jordan. Not Brian Jordan. lol

@Lep: Thank God she is not married then! :P

@Slippery K: Hitchhiker's Guide was hysterical!! I loved those! Song of Fire and Ice is good but L-O-N-G. I'm about halfway through the first book right now and lovin it but its definitely a big undertaking...like bigger than the freakin Bible big! lol

@Egon: Thanks! I figured I can't be the only one out there lookin for another good read. Check out the Temeraire Series by Naomi Novik. The first one is called "His Majesty's Dragon." Its basically a (mostly historically accurate) recounting of the Napoleonic Wars with the addition of dragons. Fing Amazing!! Its the only series I have re-read every time a new book came out just so I had an excuse to reread it! hahaha

Then buy her the books!! Her husband will thank you.

It's a little longer than an hours read, I think the book is like 250 pages, and I'd have to buy it, I may just look up the ending, but I'm not sure.....

Sure its 250 pages but take into account that the intended audience is like 10-13 year-olds so SUPER easy reading and also the size of the book and the font size. Do you know how many pages I've lengthened just by doing a 12.5 font? Now write a book in like 14 point font. And they are tiny books, like 4x6 or something, aren't they? I don't know, just something to consider when gauging a book. I sat down one day and re-read "Sarah Plain and Tall" from like 2nd grade in an hour when I was in high school. It took me a week the first time around! I guess what this boils down to is don't underestimate yourself! Go for it! I've been reading Septimus Heap just for the fun of it and they are like a two day read each. They are pretty big when you go to Barnes and Noble and actually look at them.

I think another thing that helps is having them on my Kindle. You really aren't conscious of the size of the book when you're not really turning pages. You can sink in and enjoy it. Just a thought. I have my mom reading since I bought her a Kindle. I've been trying to get her to read for 23 years! lol.

I may just buy them for her. I've been tossing the idea around. Her birthday is coming up and I was debating...

Oh and why would my dad thank her? Aren't they all about like sexual slavery and stuff?

And Chris, that's too funny!!

Im not gonna explain y, perticularly on this site. But no, its not about any form of slavery.

My wife's into the 50shades series... You're making me worried about what I don't know about these books???!

For me, I usually read a lot of factual accounts: lately Middle East/Afghan history or expedition stories. I just finished Annapurna this weekend, the first-hand account of the first successful attempt to climb a mountain over 8000m, an amazing feat and still considered the most dangerous mountain...

A few more favorites,Lee Child...I like his Jack Reacher stories,Donald Goines...He died years ago but it was his books that got me into reading novels as a young teen...Koontz is too far fetched for my tastes.I gave his Frankenstein mini series a try but after waiting a few years for book three to finally be released,I was disappointed after reading it.

I have read three of the Frankenstein books by Koontz and loved them. Totally up my alley though!

I've never read Lee Child. Can you recommend a particularly good one?

I like books about spies and war so I'm a big fan of anything with Tom Clancy's name on it. I also really like the Rogue Warrior series. Otherwise I'll read authors like Koontz, Grisham, Brad Meltzer.
