Hello
I don't like using all those hooks on my floating lures as some fish get hooked in the face, etc and since I catch and release dont want to hook them badly..

I know I will lose fish but thats fine as long as the one's I catch arent hooked bad.

Is it best to remove mid hooks or rear hooks , or doesnt matter?

Has anyone replaced the 3 hook set with individual hooks?

This pic has mid hooks removed but havent tried it yet.

Thanks

I did it a couple times and it worked. Just took the mid hook out. depends on the way the way the fish takes the lure, if it hits the side of the lure your might not get the fish.

take the treble of the back and put a single barbless hook

lol oh thats the name "treble" forgot what they were called .

Great will do that with barbless hook and try it this weekend .

Thanks

may mess up the balance of the lure, they are designed for the appropriate amount of hooks

Oh yea I imagine will lose lots of fish but rather not hook them badly.

Just wasnt sure if it would compromise the way lure moves and would it work at all but see both of you have done it and no problem.
I didnt like fish getting 2 sets of treble hooks in the face .

Will try one with 1 barbless hook and another with just one rear treble see how that hooks them. . Will try it Sat .

Thanks

you can keep them all on.. just smash the barbs so removal of the hooks is alot easier.. :D

but i guess you would still run into the problem of the trebs jabbing the fish..

i would think removing the middle set would be better.. its usually the middle set that gets caught on exterior parts of the mouth/fish..

The fish will be fine, in a week or two you couldnt even tell they were ever hooked in the face.

Last Sat I had one fish hooked by his eye and no need for it as he was mainly hooked in mouth it was the extra treble hooks that got him near his eye .

Vowed never again would that happen.
