Anyone running this light fixture?? Question for you.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use 3 of those fixtures, all 24"'s on my 125 gallon, and it is pretty bright with both switches on (there are 4 bulbs in each of mine).... I mainly only run one pair of bulbs (6 total) instead of all 4 in each fixture. Sometimes I'll use all the light to show off the tank, otherwise it seems quite the overkill. VERY cost efficent these lights are, I have had no problems whatsoever.
I even got 2 36" compacts for my 320 and they light up a 32" deep tank like it ain't nothin.

In short, I recommend these lights 100%. Both for functionality as well as price.

Check for that seller on ebay, that's where I got all my lights from, the same guy as well. Check him out here: http://stores.ebay.com/topdogsellers

Thanks for the feedback. I'd like to pull the trigger on purchasing it, but I'm concerned about the company's customer service. I've sent 2 emails and haven't received an answer yet. Their live support is also down.

I got mine on fleabay from this guy I got it really fast.

I have the dual t5 and got it with plant lights.

So is it confirmed that this fixture can run with just one bulb in? I was planning to do same thing.

Thanks for the link. He's got some good prices but the original link I posted is about 6 bucks cheaper shipped. I'm still irked about the lack of communication on their end however.

The communication from aquatraders is always iffy, but they do respond., quicker when there is a problem when you receive your lights and slower when your just asking questions. I ordered the 4 light T5 with lunar lights a few years back and I also ordered 2 extra 10k bulbs with the unit. One of the bulbs they sent was trashed and one in the fixture was in pretty bad shape with the glue they use to put the metal ends on the bulb failing. I emailed them and sent them a few pictures of the shipping box and the defective bulbs and they had my new bulbs out to me within a day or so. I haven't had a problem with them since I got them and you really can't be the price for them. When the bulbs eventually go out, just replace them with some nicer quality ones and you will be all set.

I finally got an email today from aquatraders:

There is only one switch which operates both bulbs at the same time.

Thank You,

I felt I made it clear I wanted to know if the fixture would run only 1 light, but I guess they didn't see it that way.:irked: Since I get email to my phone, I immediately replied and clarified further. Never heard back.

I just unplugged the second bulb in the circuit. So far it seems to be working fine.

Well, I bought this fixture from the ebay guy. Aquatraders were cheaper by about 5 or 6 bucks but this guy answered my questions quickly and even suggested I ask aquatraders about the technical question knowing I could see the cheaper price there. I was not happy with the lack of communication from AT, so I decided against that. He advised not running just 1 bulb even though it was possible. I'm going to try with both bulbs but if algae becomes too crazy, I'll have to take my chances. Thanks for the help!
