Anyone seen a dovii like this ?

That photo is a picture of a picture in a book from 1993 and the picture used for it is probably even older, so color is the last thing anyone should be commenting on, as Id bet its not even 25% correct, especially if that book has sat in the sunlight or extreme heat in an attic somewhere. That would make its colors completely different than when new, not to mention the cameras settings etc from the person who took the pic of the pic.

The only thing I notice a little different from todays Nics and CR's is that the Dovii pictured has more of an Istlanum body look compared to the Nics and Costa Ricans available in the hobby today. That being said, to me, the dovii pictured dont look like the Rio Higueron because the Rio Higueron dont look any different than the Nics Ive seen or had.

Ok. Well then Id say the picture is not color corrected or adjusted to reflect the actual look of the fish. The wood is greenish and the contrast/ hue of the picture appears to be incorrect, from a print standpoint.

I guess Im just stating that it doesnt appear to be a "true to life" picture and was taken under colored bulbs or something along those lines. I cant think of the exact words of what I was trying to say, but Im sure you understand. Accurate image, so to speak.

I understand, pretty much what Aquamojo demonstrated on the last page. Lighting changes everything.

Listen, I've seen specimens that are extremely similar to the ones in the photo... In person. Therefore I can say, without a doubt, that the photo in question is an accurate representation of color and form. I don't know who took the shot or where it came from. One thing that I will say is that the dovii in question is young and lacks the streamline,predatory look that is characteristic of the species. I would compare the body shape w/ a mota rather than islantum. Nevertheless, these specimens are being taken from the wild.

Most of the Nicuraguan dovies i have seen have bluish fins and brownish body, see below...

When the fish above was smaller, it was much more elongated and more green than blue and in certain light it looked very similar to Conkels photo (this one is wild from Jeff's stock in 2000-2001). I don't have photos of when it was 8-9 inches-here are more photos of it- from 14-23". Had him until 2004 when I sold it to a guy in Daytona. Keep in mind-the tank is 30" wide.

It looks normal to me as well. I have some and they look just like that. It jus depends on the lighting.

Thats one of the rainbow coloratin of nic. dovii, usually they are that darker blue than the costa ricans with the purple and green. I had one atleast 12 years ago and when he was stressed or scared he would show that coloration. I have some grow out the biggest is almost 5 inches but no adult color yet , I cant wait , the costa ricans are nice but I like the nics. coloration the best. and waited a long time to get a chance at another big male. mine was 16" inches. That mag is over 10 years old, maybe 15 . I have it somewhere.

The dovii I'm raising right now do look like that. It totally depends on the lighting though.
