Anyone shed some light on this for me?

Ok, so I have a "Tiger Oscar" 8-9 inches which I've had since he was about 5 inches. Recently, one of the lfs fishroom managers stopped by to see him and said he thinks he may be some sort of hybrid seeing as his colors change giving him lighter and darker stripes depending on his mood/lighting.

To be honest I have no idea about this so I figured someone on here might be able to give me some more information. Any comments are always appreciated.

Also, in pics 1 and 2 you can just barely make out some stripes near his fins but they werent really showing at the time of the pic

First thing, it's a perfectly normal tiger oscar and a nice looking one!

Second, never shop at that store because the manager is a moron. Tons of cichlids change colors due to there mood. I can't imagine how someone could work with aquarium fish for there living and tell you something so wrong.

this is the kind of information that goes across the board from all too many lfs staff members. especially at the chain stores. you have a beautiful NORMAL oscar.

that guys is dumb!!! what did he want to buy it back from you if it was??? i had a tiger oscar years ago and i got him because his marking looked like a stick figure.....he used to change color tones all the time and sometimes i couldn't see the stick guy but they always change depending on their mood. you have a nice lookin O there boss

if that guy is a FISHROOM MANAGER, him and who ever promoted him to said position needs to be fired. i cna only imagine what gabage he might spew to an unknowing customer.

as said, many cichlids change their colors at their will, and oscars are especially known for this. for no reason, ive seen my oscars go from mostly black to washed out and gray and different shades in between.

ive owned 2 oscars that i raised and reached the 12" mark, and one is still swimming happily around my tank changing colors as he sees fit. ask your "fish manager" how many oscars he's raised for years on end, then tell him to keep his horrid info to himself

Yep, tiger O. They lighten/darken according to mood and their markings will vary with this. Nice oscar.

Nice O dude, nice O. I have a diluted red Oscar who has a gun metal grey head normally but when my gf feeds him he goes lime green so every time he see's hear whether or not he is goin to be feed he turns green and swims around like a dog.
