You are the first to report this issue that I have seen. Others have said the cover gets warped and cracked and then they make a thread asking why their Fx5 leaks or makes bubbles. Afterall, they are only plastic. They don't need much pressure and they WILL NOT break if you tighten them finger tight, just a big snug is all you need. :)

There is an oring in the cover which seals very well with only a snug fit. All those screws are only to keep the lid from being forced up or loose by the 190+ pounds of pressure that is put on the cover after the pump shuts down.

Buddy i tighten bolts for a living!!! i know all about that stuff, and the orange cylinders are total crap they should be galvanized steel like the bolts their attached to!. i didn't even have the nob against the lid when the orange bastard broke! i still love love the filter though!;)

Woa? I know on mine those little orange cylinder things at clip under the top of the canister like to spin them selfs around 90 degrees or just about. If I ever tried forcing them back up im just they would break. Is this what possibly happend to you?

I wonder if converting to some threaded stubs with a "J Bend" at the bottom would work better, probubly wouldn't clip in though. You know, I could probubly weld up some good studs with a cylinder at the bottom that clips in like the OE ones.

I have only welded steel. I have tried aluminum but all I have is a MIG without the gas so its pretty impossible to do.

Fabrication keeps me sain :). I welded together a Sulky for my commercial mower this past summer. Rivited some alum. diamond plate on top and looks like a million bucks

Want to get some commentary on this system before I spend that much $ on one...

I bought 2 of them just last month for my 200 gal. Right now I'm cycling one of them on my 65 gal. so far it's been keeping my water super clean and clear!

I am selling one however, because I'm working on a diy sump. $250 for the new/never used fx5. I need the extra cash for the sump.
