anyone wash there hands after they work with there tanks?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I usually rinse before and after- before so nothing(soap, etc.) gets in the water, after so I don't smell like fish water.
I, too, have swallowed a mouthful or three of tank water... one of the risks of keeping fish, right?

I don't but I am paranoid about soap residue getting in the water if I had washed my hands before cleaning the tank.

I scrub before tank work like if im a surgeon preparing for surgery. Gotta make sure all the soap is off. But as im working on the tank i stick my hand in to fix something grab my pizza take a bite an back in :P

I dont know about you guys but monster fish keeping and getting splashed in the mouth face eyes ect is almost a daily thing here at feeding time. My chocolate cichlid spit a ghost shrimp IN my mouth the other day. :nilly:

dang some of you guys don't wash after? lol

Oh thats just gnarly Woofy.... but usually i do, particularly if it's "maintenece day" which is every day.... now with the kid.... always.. before... no i was guilty of it. But I always rinsed my hands good before.. lol. I was mid cleaning and my husband came to ask me something and i was up to my elbows in tank water.... he doesn't bother me now during water changes ect.. lol

I always wash my hands before I work on my tanks, only because I work with dangerous chemicals everyday. After im done sometimes I give my hands a quick rinse under the tap, but im religious with my tank maintenance so I know my water is clean and disease free. How else are people supossed to build up immune systems if we cant handle fish water. What if you live in cottage country and all you have is lake water from the tap, who knows whats in there, but people drink it anyways.

I do even though I've never gotten sick before I wouldn't want my son to get sick cause he is still an infant.

I normally rinse my hands and arms before working on the tank just because i don't want to transfer anything nasty to the tank, or have any oils from my hands etc end up in there...

After i've done all the tank maintenance then i'll wash my hands again, but with soap... if i need to do something in between tank cleaning, then i normally just rinse my hands off really well and go do what i need to (except eat, in which case i'll wash my hands with soap)
