I have now decided to use my aquapod 12 as a growout tank for a rhombeus. I am thinking of making it a planted tank because I have bright enough lighting. I just want to know if I could use my koralia nano to provide a fast current for the piranha. I also was wondering what I should run in my back chambers. I am going to get a blue diamond rhom 3-4" from aquascapeonline.
I am going to be getting a big tank a few years from now so I am planning on growing it out in this tank then transfer it when it gets bigger. I have heard that rhombeus grow 1" a year on average is this true? Will it be skittish at 3-4" ?

Thanks in advance!

Are sanchezi piranha really not aggresive? I am considering a sanchezi over the rhom.
I have about $150 to spend on a single piranha but I want to use my tank for a few years. Which piranha should I get?

im geussing an aquapod 12 is 12 gallons ? if so your kidding yourself if you think that will hold any piranha for any amount of time longer than a month. rhoms only grow an inch or 2 per year AFTER they hit 6-7 inches. they will reach that probably within 8-9 months and grow very slow afterwards

the tank may hold it for 1 maybe 2-3 months but you would be pushing it. 30 gallons is a good place to start as a grow out with a rhom eventualy needing a 125 gallon tank

I am looking to get a species that gets to be around 6". So from my research I am between getting a ruby red spilospleura or a purple sanchezi.

sanchezi and spilopluera both (im preety sure) max out at about 7-8 inches" not that large and would probably only need a 30 gallon breeder for life. i geuss you could grow one out in the 12 gallon for a bit

Alright I am going to go with a 2-3" ruby red spilospeura. What should run other than carbon in my back chambers? Also would 400 gph of flow be to much? I could either use just the return pump which is rated for 145 gph or both the return and the koralia nano which is rated for 265 gph.

I thought I should add that I used to have a coral reef in here and have a lot of experience with fish, so I think I can make this work.

Thanks

I wouldn't use carbon unless you are removing medication or other chemical in the water. add more bio media instead of carbon.
if you already have the koralia nana then could try out with and without the koralia nano see how them effect the plants and fish.
if you haven't bought it yet then see how your return pump works in the tank.
what's the size of your tank? dimensions?
like Zander said, if it's a 12g tank then it's too small for life but can be used as a grow out thank, eventually you'll need something like a 30, 40 or 50g breeder at least as the spilo get bigger.

I already have the koralia. What bio media would you recommend? I have a 100ml bag of purigen I could use. Since I have so much room in my chambers I will probably put a small uv sterilizer in there with the purigen and ceramic rings.

Thanks
