Apartment Aquarium... How BIG is to BIG!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Some apartments have things in your lease that do not allow aquariums or aquariums over so many gallons. You need to check first before you do anything.

Exactly, talk with your landlord otherwise you could be looking to rehome both your fish and yourself :D

haha my lease won't let me have fish at all. but i still have a 20 and 10 gallon because my fish had nowhere else to go.

A buddy of mine has his own company and builds homes. I posed this question to him and he said that it can hold a car unless it is faulty construction. A guy I work with has a 300gal tank upstairs.

Big enough for your landlord to chase you out of the apartment

SEE no evil HEAR no evil...I have a 120 and 50gal running full. 1 Gallon weighs 8.35lbs.

So when I only had my 120 gal which is 1,002 lbs. It should be okay, Think about this will 5 roommates at 200 lbs each collapse a living room? Especially during the NBA finals jumpin and hollerin and stuffing in pizza/beer.

Also note: I always keep an eye on the level of the water line. If it ever changes then perhaps you could start considering taking down, or move the tank to another space and only fill partly.

why dont you look up local building codes to find out the standards that had to be followed in the building of your complex that should tell you alot

Come to think about it... I think maybe even bigger than a 300would be fine. I mean come on... how many gallons is a large waterbed? I didnt even think about that

Yes, but you also have to consider weight of glass + stand + everything else in the tank adding to the weight... not to mention also depends how old the building is etc... best possible bet is to get a certified constructor or something to take a look and see what they think it will hold safely... i mean last thing any one wants is a huge tank going through the floor...

With that being said, i live in an apartment in Hong Kong and have a 200G, 60G + 25G sitting in my living room
