A year later, I'm convinced RD and Duanes are right that stress coat is unnecessary. I ran out of the jug I had and had two fish injure themselves. I can't find pic but my red millennium rainbow.really his forehead (not the proper term but the area where their breeding strip develops color when they are in mating mode. It was a big enough chunk that I can still see a bit of a dent there. I think he got started and ran straight into the edge of one of my pvp pies or into some other edge or.point.
He healed fine with water.changes and no stress coat and I can't say it took any longer than when I've used stress coat that I had in the past.
My dority rainbows have had dropped scales and again it didn't seem any slower without stress.coat.and I can't say it was faster with it.
I do have a pic of this albino millennium male. Somehow he cut.his tail. I don't know how.but maybe a clown Loach accidentally bit it when I was feeding mysis? I remember they were really hungry and only a few pieces were dropping and I saw clown Loaches grabbing them aggressively next to other fish.
I'll conclude by saying I already decided I probably wasn't going to buy more after I found this thread last year, and now I'm convinced it's not necessary.
Only use I can think might be worth it is that
Maybe it helps when transferring fish with nets? Not sure.
