I like that 3D background, I wish I had considered that when I started my aquarium. Does anyone else have a problem with that happening to them? You think everything's perfect and then realize you don't like your gravel anymore, or you wish you had done something differently?

Of course, i do it frequently.
Although more often than not I'll test & play with it to get my head around it completely, then move on. If its worth exploring further due to a longer interest, I throw everything at it.

Nice trunk background to by the way. If your happy with it, honestly, that's all that matters

I couldn't for the life of me ever recommend a setup like that. There's some species of Apistogramma that will do alright with bigger species like that but most won't. They're best kept as the only Cichlid in the setup.

they are gorgeous!! even the female is pretty, and yeah it was just an idea to add some movement to the bottom since i figured the larger Cichlid would ignore them but i have never kept them so i will follow your advise and stay away from them for my tank (maybe if i decide to keep my 20g set up for more than just a grow out i may dedicate it to them... :))

I am dealing with that now in my 150. I used cheap construction sand as my substrate and my water is always cloudy and its impossible to clean. I have been dreading dismantling the tank to swap out the substrate though.

I definitely want to remove my substrate and put in something that's better for plants, but I want to give all of my plants more time to bounce back since they all look crappy after the recent remodeling... I need more plants any so at some point I'm gonna buy more plants, new substrate and more driftwood because I love the look of what I have in my tank.

triple reds, trifasiata, stendechnari, blue steel, wild cacs,

does anyone have a line on some Inka???? Ive been trying to get some for some time now

I had my gravel already in my tank before I decided that I wanted apistos and plants, so what I did was take about a 1/4 of the gravel and I replaced it with aquatic soil and then added plants.

2 Apistogramma Atahualpa, and 1 Apistogramma Cacatuoides. I keep them in a 55 with 2 Balloon rams, 4 angels, and an EBJD. There is very little aggression and evreyone seems to mind their own business.

Here is a pic of my 2 Apistogramma Atahualpa
