Stopped by a LFS I've gone to for quite a while & they've always been fairly knowledgeable. I was talking to one of the new kids today about salinity for puffer fish and he said he had to call over his manager to answer the question.

We chatted for a few minutes and then asked me what I had in my tanks at home. I told him I had a young black arowana in a 50 gallon but I'll be getting a 450 gallon sometime in the spring. He said the 450 gallon is nowhere near big enough because silvers grow to over 6 feet and my wild caught black will easily be over 6.

I asked him if he was talking about arapaimas and not arowanas but he insisted he was correct. I just smiled and said thanks and left shaking my head.

yea things like that happpen a lot, best solution, smile and nod
unless they don't get offended by being corrected but I gave up on that

Maybe the LFS manager has small feet.

Of coarse, I'm sure if he had any for sale he'd tell ya that they are fine for a 55g.

No way! I thought they can grow to around 15'??

Okay i've seen silver arowanas being 6ft, but a black NO biggest i've seen was about 24 inches.
