What is the appeal? Is it their size? Is it that they are still considered "rare" in the hobby (even post ban)? Do they glow when you turn the light out?

To me they look like any other "teacup" mottled brown and tan ray. Please let me know what the appeal is.

I agree the size is a big plus. My motoros are almost outgrowing my bar and I am looking for a replacement. Leos are still out of the price range and I prefer the look of Motoros over Hysterix.

The size appeal was what got me hooked on Hystrix. I believe they are the best looking of the 3 small rays(hystrix, scobina, retic). But when you actually own one, you will fall in love with them. They have big frog like eyes, they carry a different personality. And when they growout, they turn dark and have nice marble like patterns.

BTW the fact that they are difficult to come by, also makes them even more sought after.

Well you have a lot of variety in Hystrix. It depends on which color underground you keep them as well.

Mine are almost white of color, but they are kept on white sand too. And they are pretty docile compared to the more aggressive ray species

x2 :naughty:

The appeal?

Ha ha......there is more to it than that.

Well I can tell you it has nothing to do with size.
Anyone who thinks they need less space than any other ray is just cruel.
And their pattern is nothing like a bland retic or ugly brown ray.

The devilishly high set eyes....

The stubby little paddle tails......

THE AMAZINGLY CUTE COMPACT CUTENESS!!!!!

HAHA Bella how did I know you were going to find this thread. You tell em bout the hystrix power!!! :headbang2

I like the temperment of Histrix as well. Very mellow ray. When they breed, the females dont get nearly as shredded as motoros. They dont freak out as much as my motoros. I like the shape of them too. And the front of the disk is thicker than all the other rays I've owned. They are just cool.

I really wanted hystrix for a long time, because of the size, and the fact that their eyes seem to be quite a bit smarter looking and "taller" than most of the other smaller rays. I like their patterns too, very subtle.

But the price kinda turned me off. So those of you that have a bunch, get breeding!
