Appreciate what you have

Hey man, don't let the fish employ you. When you reach the point when it isn't enjoyable, the it's time to step back.

I think that my work load picking up is what did me in. I was doing okay when I was working 8 hours a day, but switched to 12 hour days and it put me under. My fish just weren't getting the necessary attention that the require. Especially, the ones which require frozen foods.

This happens all the time, the internet can be a very bad influence if you let it. I was caught up in collecting things when I used to search ebay and collection forums, people will just start buying things to show-off online in my opinion? They see these pics of people with massive collections and they try and compete? Don't get caught up in the hype, don't buy a fish just because it's the MFK flavor of the month. Stick to what you really want, take as much time thinking the purchases over before you get them. Remember the more things we want , the less happy we will be? Be happier, be greatful for what we already have and try to want less? You are an awesome fishkeeper JD , way to make a sacrifice to take better care of your fish!

I'm in the same situation you are. I buy EVERYTHING I want. I stuff the tanks chalk full, and end up spending hours upon hours doing water changes. It hasn't lost it's fun yet, but I can see a time where it might.

Well, I appreciate what you have! Glad to here that you're not getting completely out, and some good advice too!
I agree with you ewurm.

Thanks for that advice- I am stocking my first tank and have the same problem- I want them ALL. I finally just realized that I am young and have many years ahead to try all kinds of combo's of fish- unless I burn myself out in the beginning by biting off more than I can chew!

Bret, I think we hit the same realization at the same time. It's time for me to get out of the "glory" and focus on the fish that mean the most to me. I've been working on filtration to keep those happy, and I'm selling the others.

Great advice kids.........listen to what JD_Man says.

I certainly buy more than I should, but its all stuff I want, not influenced by fads or popularity at all.And i go to a few clubs that have annual auctions so if I cant sell anything Im tired of it goes on the auction block!!
