Aquaclear 70

Should I get a Aquaclear 70 on my 55 gallon. I already have a aqueon 55/75 filter but to much filtration is not bad since I have an Oscar. But Is Aquaclear a good choice or just over hyped? Because I heard bad things about the motor an it going out.

I just recently replaced both of my Aqueon 55/75's with AC 70's, I wish I had done it much sooner. The media chambers are better, adjustable flow is nice even though I leave mine on max, the way it flows into the tank is nice and they are quieter then my Aqueons were.
 
Quieter than aqueon no way. The aq is louder the output slide thingy is higher than the sq so it falls further and the aq has that plastic part at the end that stops debris and slows flow before it hits the water. I have both running on my 70g the aqueon is quieter better flow and great mechanical filtration lots if plastic to catch debris also lots of room for sponges and floss. The aq70 is The better biofilter and a lot easier to maintenance. I have my loaded with biomax and one sponge. I think they compliment each other atleast in my setup.

I have both, and disagree, aqueon has so much filter bypass its ridiculous! I believe 95% of members would agree that aquaclears are far better, but Atleast I have finally seen a positive post on the aqueons! BTW you can't even compare the media capacity, ac110 is over a gallon and 70 is 2/3 of a gallon.


I guess if you like it that's all that matters, personally mines sitting in my junk drawer. And its louder cuz it has more gph.

Well its not the "best" its just a compliment. As I single filter I'd go aq. And aq110 is a whole other level. I don't notice the by pass. It may be because mines not packed down fully and when I change the floss every couple of days they are equally dirty. Still I like my aqueons and that plastic thing at the end it catches lots of poop :D.

Mine bypassed after a couple days after replacing and cleaning the filter pads, right where the water enters, it will leak out the lid. Although I will say its a very good value!

I'D stay away from aqueon food tho lol

Maybe it was because my Aqueons were old but they had a hum to them - which is just my personal experience :) . I stand by saying the AC70 flows much stronger then the 55/75's did. This could be due to the fact that the aqueon's were stuffed with sponge media but the aquaclear has sponge/sponge/ceramic rings as I don't run carbon. My substrate is sand I only use one of the tube's so it's about half way up the tank, still flows good doesn't pull any sand it, although neither did my aqueons.
