Aquaponics/tropical fish farm in Wi

Have you thought of the rarer larger live bearers like poecilia gili? The offspring would fetch a decent amount and they are pretty hardy CA fish. Or even pike livebearers

On the live bearers I may try them I would need a tun of them tho the tanks are going to be arround 500 gallons per tank. At least as of now thats what there going to be.

Possibly a mix then? Livebearers tend to be easier to breed so the population would create itself over time.

What about severum? There not too aggressive and best kept in schools, this project interests me greatly id like to create something like it on a smaller scale so i can grow my own food fish

I'm also working with hard water and high ph I would love to do severums there some of my fav fish but the water would not be ideal for them. with the smaller fish I could build a good group of them as long as I have the rest of the tanks stocked well. the room I have can get a max of 10 tanks at the size I'm wanting (15*2*2) but we won't be running all to start with. I'm thinking were starting with just 2 tanks running to start till the system is balanced then add more tanks from there. On a side note I am thinking of growing out and maybe breeding plecos in the plant beds. Do you think they would do to much dammage to the plant roots there will be a tun of algae in there for them.

There will be a green house I think I was told he's wanting it like 60'*15'. The fish will be in the barn and on the outside wall of the fish room will be the green house.

Another fish I was thinking of putting into this is xenotilapia there a harder fish to find and I believe do well in the water conditions I have to work with

I'd imagine the roots would be safe as long as you kept a good supply of other food, but typically the plants are separate from the fish in setups I've seen. Idk about xenos, but you could also go w/ rarer strains of convicts like the calicos and selectively breed your own

I do know some people use alge eaters in the plant beds so the alge won't take over and kill the plants

So the plans have change once again it looks like now were doing 3 300 gallon stock tanks to start. the stock tanks are 8*3*2 so a good foot print so start with. We have a lot of room to expand if needed. Here are the pictures of what I have to work with uploadfromtaptalk1390182622328.jpguploadfromtaptalk1390182654383.jpguploadfromtaptalk1390182680783.jpg
