Aquaripure filters? Supposedly converts nitrate to gas?

This. I keep a pothos colony in an old Marineland 60 HOB. My NO3 never goes above 10.

Well played my good sir. Well played!

Oh yeah rob i was planning on pothos, i cant afford this fancy stuff lol i was just interested if anyone on here ran one if it actually works or not haha. I need to find a store selling pothos pronto now most plant sections are gone. Hopefully they sell them year round

Ive been planning pothos but i simply cant figure out what to fill in the spaces between the basket the roots are in and the edge so no fish jump out! haha I know its not a very good chance they will jump in just the right way but my red wolf made it through a hole in the lid of my 70 i thought he had been too wide to get through for a couple months. Im lucky i was in the room and heard the noise.

I just found it and wanted to know if anyone on MFK ran it, im not in any way a lazy fishkeeper, wasnt hunting for a way to lessen WC really just found this interesting. It seems like it would be a HUGE cost but if you have the money for it that means you more then likely dont have the time for WCs on many tanks... so maybe if im ever make 6 figures ill invest in these haha.

Check out the sticky in my sig for tons of info

I was curious about those filters as well but couldnt find anyone using one to give me feedback. Never heard of the pothos plants though. I have a few at home I should give it a try! :)

Like I said above, give it a visit and you wont regret it!

Cheap way to decrease nitrates and keep your fish healthy: http://monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=504763

Pothos can work, but you need a lot of it and I would give it lots of light to help it grow really fast. I know a lot of people say it does not need light, but in my case it refused to grow until I added a ton of light. Couple of things I did not like about pothos:
- I added several lights, this resulted in algae bloom that I could just not get rid of. I ended up spending more time cleaning algae than doing water changes. You can probably minimize this if you set up the lights to be directly on the plants with minimal light going into the tank (this was very hard for me)
- The plants really took off which was awesome, but after the plants added several feet of leaves it became significantly harder for me to open my glass canopy. It became a real pain to just get food in an out. This can be avoided if you are able to give the plants some direction as to where to grow. Based on my setup, I could not do this. I also ran into the problem that the plant start hanging down the side of the tank and was afraid my dog would start eating it

Despite my challenges, I recommend trying pothos. I have completely removed my lights for now, but still have the pothos and am tinkering with the overall setup to make optimal :)

I was curious if there's a DIY way into making this kind of filter.
Could some kind if bio- reactor do the same thing?
Maybe a scientist on Mfk could shed some light?

Here's a DIY way to get rid of nitrates and phosphates--algae scrubbers. SantaMonica developed algae scrubbers as you can see from his evolving thread. Over time the designs have been modified.

Joey Uaru, the King of DIY, recently posted a very video on constructing a very simple algae scrubber.

Aquari pure filters work. They are just costly and a bit finicky.

A drip system is cheaper and eliminates docs as well. Pothos is one of the best bangs for the buck though for nitrates.
