Aquarium Keeping Ethics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Don't allow any fish to suffer, or be left in pain. Be considerate of their feelings, they are living things too.
Also, don't buy a fish that you don't have a proper environment for.

Know and understand the "cycle" process.
Do not add too many fish, too quickly to your tank. The bio filtration nedds time to adjust(the same goes for new or established tanks).

ok.. here's my 2 cents.

prepare ahead of time for emergencies..

foam filters with air stones and battery air pumps or a stand alone generator for power outages..

Keep basic first aid meds on hand all the time.. aquarium salt, melafix, some kind of anti-biotic.

Spare heaters, filter parts for emergency repairs, nets for every size fish, PVC pipe in various sizes for moving catfish and fish with bony fins that would tear a plastic bag or get caught in a net.

never rely on a single filter in any tank, always have backup.

I didn't see this but ALLWAYS RESEARCH ABOUT DISEASES. You can never know when it will happen.

Great one! Definitely something every fish keeper should read up on and have atleast a slight idea of different diseases and its symptoms otherwise how can we treat them?

I really really like this one. Not very common thoughts when thinking of aquarium.

heater guards... why have your fish burn on/wreck the heater when you can easily make a cheap pvc cover to go over it, with a few holes drilled in to allow water to interchange easily.
