aquarium safe rocks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just make sure to wash them off really well. I'm not sure if there really is any way to tell for sure.

almost all rocks are safe .. there are a few that could leach stuff into the tank such as limestone ...

but what kind of rocks are you thinking about putting in?

Don't know if this is true but i was told by a lfs owner who i know personally to rub PH Down on the rock with a q-tip. He said if it bubbles or fizzes don't put it in the aquarium. The rocks that fizz can release toxic metals into the water and make the water go very alkiline.

If you can see metal in it, if it fizzes with vinegar poured over it, or if it can crumble in your hand I would avoid it.

We have a lot of flagstone here, most of it foams when you pour an acid on it, and turns to dust after about a month underwater.

River rocks are great for aquariums.

the marble should be fine..dont know about the silica though. I've used granite, slate, sandstone, geodes lol... & soap stone (very easy to carve)

Stay Away from alabaster and limestone they will dissolve in water over time.
