aquarium salt for fresh waster

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It looks like that salt would be safe for tanks, but the size suggests constant use (or a fish store) and that is what should be discussed as well. It is relevant and worth discussing.

Well right now I have a 125 and a 20, and my uncle has a 300, 180, 125, 75, and a 55, and we each have a 50lb bag or two kicking around all the time. As far as I know you can only get it in larger quantities, so I spent the same amount on a 50lb bag as I would a large box of aquarium salt. I don't even care if I use it at all cause it's so cheap. Quantity of the bag alone isn't enough to ignite a debate about the uses of salt.

Any time someone asks about salt and freshwater aquariums it is worth discussing.

I use this salt for my koi all the time, and I use it in my freshwater tanks as well when needed.

For medicinal healing purposes, you want .3%-.5%

.3% is 1 cup per 100 gallons.

It will not hurt to salt your tank a bit every now and then, but if you continually salt, many forms of parasites etc will become salt resistant.
