aquascape opinions..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im hoping the 2-250w mh and 8-39w t5 actinics will be enough lighting. most people with 72" long tanks will run 3-250w mh's. but because of the center brace i cant run a center mh.

aquatraders just released 2 new 36" fixtures. they both have 2 mh in them. 250w and 150w. 4-150w mhs wouldve been perfect. 1 thing i dont like about them is each fixture has 6 power cords. that would be 12 total, out of control...

i hope i live that long. lol

I do too...I wanna see these colonies!

Yea...that would be crazy...also you will have plenty of lighting.

My lights are about 6-7" off the glass...which is about 6-7" off of the top of my SPS in most case. I am noticing some pretty crazy growth to be honest...my pink lemonade is starting to cruise.

That is on a standard 125g, with 2x 160w 4300nm VHO and 2x 150w 14k MH...from www.fishneedit.com with their standard bulbs...cant wait till I upgrade bulbs.

i switched the bulbs that came with the odyessa fixtures to 14k phoenix bulbs before i even installed the lights

Yea...I am putting this thing together as cheaply as I can...this is why it has been a year and neither the filtration, nor the stocking of fish/mobile invertebrates is even finished. Just wait till I get started with the corals.

i need to hurry up and get this tank running before most my sps corals in my 28 gal are dead. im just thinking that my 28 is just way overstocked. i cant figure it out. only 2 or 3 sps's out of like 10 are doing good. the others are going to need some fragging.

i ordered a milwalkee digital refractometer to replace my hydrometer. im thinking it may be off quite a bit. i also have a standard refractometer, a cheap 1, its says to calibrate with ro water but it wont calibrate properly. i saw a thread by randy holmes and he said u cant calibrate those with ro u need to 53ms calibrating solution. so i tried it. i first calibrated it with ro to read 1.000, then tested it with the solution which should read 1.0259. it was reading 1.030. not good. i will let u know what my actual saltinity is tommarow when i get the digital. this could be my whole problem. salt to low.

I use a cheap ebay refractometer, calibrate with 0 tds RODI, and then cross refernce what I get from my mixes with a swing arm.

The IO hydrometers work pretty good. If you have a chance to calibrate with something else...good as well.

What matters is that it is close, and then consistent.

Ok did some tests with the digital refractometer. First u zero it with ro water then test. Tank tested 3 times at 1.023 and hydrometer is reading 1.026.

I have a batch of mixed salt water in a 5 gal bucket. Tested 1.032 on hydrometer and 1.030 on digital.

I'm thinking I should beleive the digital meter over a 5$ hydrometer.

Also I have some calibration fluid it read 1.026 like it should
