Aquatic plant, + collecting in Lake Gatun

I am researching for a vacation in Panama and stay in The Gamboa Rainforest resort as a one stop place for boat ride in Lake Gatun, canopy tram, bird watching. PB fishing, hiking, swimming, or just good seafood.

Unfortunately , there is no snockling which I wish to see some salt and freshwater fish near Panama City. At least two cichlid I have kept originated from Panama, Cryptoheros panamensis and nanoleutus, the two most colorful convicts. I don’t think they are in Lake Gatun but likely in some small tributaries. Have the op located where they can be found.

Lake Bayano (not that far from Panama City) might be a reasonable fresh water snorkeling spot, I plan on trying it (and some cichlid collecting there if possible) hopefully in the near future. No salt water crocs in it.
There is salt water snorkeling off the shore of Taboga (only a 30-40 minute ferry ride from the city), not like a coraline Caribbean reef, but lots of life.

I have been amazed at the hardness of the plants "yanked" fromLake Gatun.
This is how one plant ( I don't know the name yet) was when added. last week.
