Does anyone have any experience buying products off of Aquatraders? Legit? Good products? Let me know about them, especially their lights.

Fleshy has used them a bunch. years ago they had some complaints (if you look around you'll find the same 2 or 3 complaints repeated over and over) about over heating and FIRES! however, more recent experience with them has showed an increase in quality. It ain't geismann, but they'll work for a few years while you save up.

Thanks, that is kinda what I figured. The price can't be beat, but in the long run proly not worth it. I am thinking about adding some more lights to my 75.

I dunno...ran them with no problem.

If you can afford better, dont waste your time, for those that want to set up their tank now...cant beat them.

Try fishneedit.com if you need a light but don't want to spend the money right away. Go ahead and use the stock bulbs for a while and then throw some new ones in when the time come to replace them or you have a little money burning a hole in your pocket ;)

Fish need it is slightly more expensive, but I plan on using their 70w fixture for my next larger planted tank.

Worth checking out, their site is a little more ghetto than AT's though.

It may look ghetto in comparison but a lot of bells and whistles on another site can just cover up for what they are lacking in quality. Be just like me wrapping a dog turd with some ribbon and throwing a bow on top hahaha!

I have owned an aqua trader light and it was scary when I opened it up. It was gone soon after. I have never owned a fish need it light but I know some people with them and always hear good things. Also I hear the owner is a very nice guy to deal with. Customer service is one of the biggest things I look for!

Fire issues aside, the ballast arent as important as the reflectors.

But, the reflectivity and cost of reflectors arent linear. And even so, a high price isnt indicative of qaulity. Its a shame Ice Cap went under recently, because they had some of the best t5ho reflectors around.

Then you have the bulbs...

Lighting and optics is hairy. I think the aquatraders units, complaints aside, are OK units. I have a current t5ho fixture that would cost 400 or so new, and its probably not much better in light output then their units.

Unfortunately I am going to have to disagree with the Ice Cap statement. Their product was industrial lighting from China that was rebadged. They started going cheap with their products. That is why Calfo left them because they started using crappy rebranded bulbs for his line of bulbs. People were catching on and that is one of the many reasons the company started crashing.

One of the best reflectors I have seen to date is in the ATI LET modular lighting they have. My buddy works for the guy who designed the reflector and after he showed me them I was blown away.
