There are a few bans, but the real pre ban is the '86 ban on machine guns (Reagan).

I put 150 rds down range through the Glock 19 earlier today. Felt good, little rusty, grouping was a little wide, but it's a new G19.

If you have a bug for an AR I understand, but if you actually want something for home protection and target it isn't your best bet. The AR platform will never be as accurate as a bolt rifle, it is also too powerful and clumsy for home defense. It is difficult to put in your nightstand, or behind it. A rifle cartridge has too much penetration for close range home defense. This includes penetrating walls and traveling into loved one's rooms or neighbor's homes. You can get a good quality bolt and a handgun for home defense with your 1200. Just my two cents.
Shotgun is okay for home def. but you have to remember a long gun can easily be taken or turned out of your hands or more especially a wife's hands. When turning a corner or looking through your house.
Good point.I've been debating with myself about which would be best for my wife to have at her disposal should the need arise.(handgun or shotgun)
Awesome guns, you should get a AK-47. Here is my favorite gun to shoot from my collection. 7.62X39mm is one hell of a round and i can get them at half the price as .223
