Awesome guns, you should get a AK-47. Here is my favorite gun to shoot from my collection. 7.62X39mm is one hell of a round and i can get them at half the price as .223
just my 2 cents
Always wanted an AR but I have a problem with their price vs. an AK type rifle.

You need to look up the laws in your home state to make sure there aren't any restrictions. Don't know where you are located, but here in California you need to have either a 'featureless build' or a maglocked rifle that can only accept 10 rounds. If you are buying complete, you'd need to have this done before you can receive the rifle.

1200 would get you a VERY nice AR. I'm building mine (STILL :( ) and I'm only 500 into it. Still need a BCG and handguard, so I'm looking at 700 total.

I built it myself, and was able to get things like an 'upgraded' LMT rear sight compatible with optics, (ACOG's and Dot Sights) built the lower on my own (ever play with legos? Same thing :) ) and the upper I purchased cheap because it didn't have the bolt and handguard.

Check out Spike's Tactical for complete rifles/lowers/uppers. There's also BCM (bravo company) Those are 2 really good 'entry level' companies that get you warranties and good customer service, not to mention USA built stuff, and good tolerances.

By the way, I bought wifey a 12 gauge. She said she wanted insurance to make sure I don't make a 'boo boo' LOL. She's only ilke 5 feet, and she can shoot it, just takes getting used to. She likes shooting my Glock 30 too...take the wife out to the range and have her try a bunch of different guns, have her pick what she likes!

12ga in home though? ow!! to both parties

Look up the 'box o truth' in google. Old retired guy did a bunch of 'tests' with standard drywall and studs. Made a box that is the equivalent of 6 standard house walls. Tested rifles, handguns, shotguns on it to see the difference between over penetration and the like.

In a home defense scenario, yes, a shotgun would be best. Thing of a dark firefight (more than likely a couple of shots at most) and you not having time to aim efficiently to acheive a proper stop to the threat with a handgun...and a rifle will go through your house, and into neighbors houses, whereas a shotgun will give you enough spread to not have to worry about shot placement as much as a handgun or a rifle. Now that is not to say that you can just rack and bang all throughout the house, but it takes some guesswork out of it. Then again, proper training on all firearms would make each gun a go to gun for each certain scenario.

Shotgun would be a primary weapon, handgun would be secondary. If you need a rifle, and more than a tube full of shot, and a mag or 2 per gun, you probably need a swat team, and need to be jumping out of a window and getting to safety.

Pumps are also simple, no nonsense rack and pull the trigger guns. Less chance of failing/misfeeding/misfiring/ejection problem. Rifles can jam, so can handguns, and that will put you down and out if your gun has a malfunction, whereas a shotgun really has less of a chance of this happening, due to less parts in the gun that can fail. Revolvers are the same in that sense.

Besides, the racking of a shotgun can be a very scary sound, or a turn on, depending on who you ask LOL

I agree with Vicious i know it says NorCal but i am USAF and from GA built my own for about 650 stag upper and double star lower. And dont go crazy and get all those crazy calibers stick with the 5.56 (223) it is cheap and easy to find I hate nothing more then having a bad@ss gun and you cant find ammo. And brand really does not matter 99% of the guns are milspec anyway the best advice i can tell you though is to get a chrome lined barrel. It is worth the extra money and the other thing good optics. Well good luck and post some pics of that bad boy when you get it.

^ Good point, another good point, is whatever you build, make sure it's 5.56 rather than .223, the chamber is built to withstand higher pressures of the 5.56 nato round, and you can shoot both 5.56 and .223 out of it, but not the other way around.

Thank you....My mother wanted something to protect herself with in her home and I feel better with her using a shotgun more so a handgun as she does not have much time for range practice.I presented her with my Mossberg 500 pistol grip and once she heard that racking sound it was hers.
