Lol oh crap...I tried...we just finished our "yard pond" which takes up almost an acre of my yard lol the arapaima would have loved to be the first addition and for that price I wouldn't mind the future expenses on them. I wouldnt want to see them in a 55 gallon tank because they were just sold to first people with the cash, and having no knowledge on them. That's a damn shame. I wish I could help :-(

Put a sticker on the lfs tank that you are ready to adopt the fish when they outgrow the buyers 55 gallon tank.
On the plus side you get grown up fish for your pond & such a info might just prevent some dad from buying a pima for his ten years old's 20 gal.
