Arapaima Pond Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hello Fishe, Rome, 123matt123, thanks for the comments, appreciate...

Rome, yes indeed. Compacting in that sense is important. Trying to leave the underground as undisturbed as possible.
The top layer of sand will still get some water over it first to settle it better. After that it's filling and testing, maybe adding some more sand in spots.

Matt, 5 to 6 Meters, not Feet...that's somewhere 15 to 20 feet wide, 30 to 35 feet long...
Plenty for Mr. T. to grow.

Just came in...Mr. T ok, pond still same..
Got another couple of headaches to take care of this week, so will be a long wait for substantial work.

Cheers,
Luc

At least some work done...
Sandbags out, part kept for the side wall, rest emptied against the back wall.
Looks like a huge pond is taking shape finally.
Maybe tomorrow morning if work allows, dig out some of the stuff.
I'm pretty sure that it will have a 2nd bottom drain, better now than sorry later.

See if anything more can be done this week.
Very happy that Mr.T's pond is out of the way.

Enjoy some pictures:

Seeing the pictures it looks huge lol...
Tomorrow maybe some digging, about 30cm deeper where the old pond was.
Not many people but maybe get to the second bottom drain.
From there sloping up to the side wall and the 2nd bog area.
The other thing still to do is to make the vortex chamber there.
Learned from the first one, this one hopefully waterproof in one shot.

Fun jobs ahead, this Friday day off, might be working on it alone for for some things.
Cheers,
Luc

loving the build Luc...keep it up and us posted...

cant wait to see the final outcome...

Have done some today...Second settling tank is pretty much finished.
Long holiday, so tomorrow nobody there.
But Tuesday to Thursday nothing much in terms of customers and my contractor comes in to finish work on the concrete and sunshade.
I'm hoping to have the pond itself ready with 2nd bottom-drain siliconed and screwed in.
Hope to make second dome on Wednesday and then ready for painting it by Friday/Saturday.
When that all works out, then maybe start filling a bit on Sunday and get the liner straightened out.
Monday another holiday, so might go there and keep filling up and keep the liner straight.
Need to hurry with at least the bottom-drain because rain-chances increasing by now.

Biggest job still to do is to dig out the bottom and bring up the sides.
Mostly it's just moving sand, but with the heat and sun, that's no easy job.
Next week some pictures again....

The mistake I made with the first settling tank is not to silicone the nails, but also the rim where the bottom and the 2 antenna's are screwed together. This time I've changed that, so I expect it to be pretty much water proof in 1 shot.
This tank will have same outlet under it to the side with a valve to release dirt.
The bottom-drain connects in the same way as the first one as well.
But additionally, the skimmer-pipe will connect to it.
Given the extra pipe pushing in water, I expect the vortex effect here to be bigger, but lets see.
Outside is just same, pump into the bog area and from there back in the pond.
