Arapaima Pond Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The move will be done without any tranquillisers or anything. What they'll do is slowly guiding the Arapaima into a large piece of fabric that will cover his eyes as well. Then lift the fish out of the water and into the back of the truck, which is a pond by itself.
You can see in the picture that each truck has its own oxygen tank on top.
Once at the new factory, the process is reversed and the fish is slowly and carefully released into its new surroundings.

Checked the water just now in the new pond. It certainly feels cooler than before the roof.
Drain valves didn't release much of solids. Instructions with the security guard are to open each valve every day for 10-15 seconds and check for that. So far so good.

Yes that's a good plan. Make sure the truck pond has strong covers to stop jumping. A small dark pond is better than large to reduce jumps. Fish are less likely to jump when they can feel the sides.

I cant see the truck but having the pond aligned so fish travels sideways will reduce nose damage when truck needs to stop and start in traffic.

Getting an experienced person with own equipment is fantastic. I'm sure everything will go well.

This is epic on a scale that I'll never be able to achieve, but still, major goals anyhow!

This is by far my favourite thread on MFK; holding my breath to read about the move. Good luck!

Well, today's move did not go as planned.
Initially all went well, 2 turtles got out, into 1 of 2 trucks.
But going for the arapaima, when they had him in a long net, he wrestled and spit out half a bird.
He'd been fasting for 7 days, but seemingly caught that bird.
Crew leader cancelled the move saying there's a 50/50 chance he won't make it through the move with food in his stomach.

So we're back to square 1, wait another 4-5 days and they'll be back for a second try.
