arapaima question

well sam can you put a paima about 10 inches in a pond which is 12, to 10 to 4 i decided to make the width more how dous that sound mate. last month i went to malaysia and there is a whole lot for em . i woonder if you can import from there or buy online

Hmmm well for fully grown @ minimum 7' I'd say the 12' isnt long enough will probably need to be more like 28' but I would imagine you would have a fair while until it hit the 7' mark, I know they are fast growers when they are small, but i'd assume growth slowed down once it got a few feet?
I have no experience with these so anybody that has any information feel free to tell me i'm wrong.
 
This fish I think should be left in the wild.

Unless you have a swimming pool size tank

i would get an pima unless you got a massive indoor swimming planned out for it.
 
Why don't people stop telling him not to get one. He has a 12 x10 pond. Were is an arapaima that is a full life captive fish at 7'. This falls right into the gator gar concept. It would take many years to reach that size.the biggest I know of is 4' or so. You see bigger in zoos but they are caught that size.

I have a big tank bigger than most people but I would never think about getting a lince cat again

A Pima RTC or a gator gar have never entered my mind

For me Asian aro on top tigers/dats and tinfoils in the middle rays and tigrinus on the bottom

There is a reason this combo is so popular

1. It works
2. It looks the nuts

Same could be said for every fish that is "best left in the wild". Rays are a prime example of it. Most people say they should be left in the wild and they are popular here.

I am saying the op asked if one could live in the pond or not. He did not ask to get 90% reply rate as "most can't house one" "best left in the wild" "I have a bigger tank then most and I would never get one". Yes everyone is untitled to their opinions but those are the responses that turn people off sites. Those are also the types of replies Peta quotes for all their crap to stop them from being imported. If you dont want one don't get one. Unless someone is trying to put one in a 55gal. There is no reason for them to be turned away from them. The op even changed to a different group of fish after being told it wouldn't fit. Yet the replies never answer his next group of fish question. They in turn go on and on about how arapaimas are not x persons cup of tea.

You could do some big cats and arowanas. They will look great in the pond. Even. Could think about rays if you like them. Since you have decided not to get a Pima.
