Arapiama Gigas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I say buy it! Grow it as large as you can. When it dies have it mounted and put it over your fireplace or something. That would look way better than a Muskie or some little Bass! Remember this is Monster Fish Keeping! No one said they had to be alive :D

Are you trying to say that a 16'x5' pond is enough for an arapaima? Just because it is 16' long doesn't mean it would be big enough to house any fish. Do you realize how big arapaimas get? The pond would have to be 10'+ wide just to allow an adult arapaima to turn around. Regardless of the price of the build or the fish itself, the point is that he doesn't have the means to house an arapaima.

Nope, we're going in the same direction here.

I'm taking the arapaima out of the equation and saying a 16' long tank is huge. You can add any width on to that you want. It's simply impractical for most people to build it, heat it, and keep up with the upkeep.

If this tank is indoor, it wouldn't fit in half of the houses in america unless you dedicated a good portion of your house to it. As monster fish keepers, it may be our dream, but its still fairly impractical.

After you throw all of that into the equation, spending $300 on a fish is an after thought. That's barely the interest payment on a the loan for the cost of the tank.

Now about the fish...you can't throw a fish that will grow to that size in a tank that is relative to most of our budgets. We all should consider this when we buy fish. No matter how cool they are.

i dont know if this is abit old but i think to buy a aripiama u must have proof that you can house it arnt aripiamas somewhat endangered corrrect me if im wrong

Nope. He means theres no way in hell it would work out.

Honestly, unless you've got a tank the size of arapaimag or johnPTC you really shouldnt even be considering arapaima.
Oh, I completely misunderstood his post then.
