well, i guess they could be minimums. i would agree somewhat. i reckon 3 foot. otherwise when they areo lder they are ompletely confined to just turning, its good to have the fish be able to swim to the back of the tank

id switch the black's width with the asian's width
 
A 6' tank is simply not long enough for a 2.5-3' powerful fish like an arowana, end of story. You might get away with it for a long time with a jar/lei/asian, but I doubt they'd reach their full potential. For the south americans and african I think you'd want an 8' tank by the time they get to >2' so they can stretch their legs (fins?) a bit.

Eric I don't know if you've ever even seen a big silver, but I will tell you now there is no way a 3' long silver will be happy in a 6' tank....
