Centrarchus may be my favorite fish to keep. They are relatively peaceful, resilient, and don't get bullied by other tankmates. They don't get huge, either. My biggest males are probably in the 7" range, maybe a bit bigger.
Their spawning behavior is really cool as well. They will take their wigglers and hang them in floating plants instead of having them in a pit in the sand. They are really fun to watch and very under rated, IMO.
