I recently picked up a 2 Inch Silver Arowana from my LFS, and asked them if it would be fine to put it into a 29 gallon aquarium with my Black Phantom Tetras, School of Corydoras, and a Senegal Bichir that is only a centimeter longer than the Arowana. They had told me that the fish would be compatible.

After about a week, I couldn't help but notice that small parts of the Arowana's tail fin was missing, and I suspected the tetras and moved them to a different tank. A day later I noticed that the anal fin was nipped. The missing area of the anal fin is around the same size and shape of the bichir's jaw. Is it possible that the bichir took a nip?

Yes, definitely. :(

It depends on the personality of the bichir - sometimes they are OK. I would think that if they were in the tank they'll be in for life with more room, and the aro was bigger, it would be a non-issue, but I don't really know.

My Teug has a go at my tetras every once in awhile, and nips my Polli. No one else does any nipping. It seems like it's sort of a crap shoot.

I agree with magpie magpie but you are going to lose the tetras and the cories can possibly choke aro if it decided to eat it.

Well its only a temporary tank atm, and the Arowana is only 2 inches (5 centimeters, right?), going to start building an 8x3 tank over the course of the next 2 months.

Yes I agree jaws clearly missed that and stated aro was 2 inches. I personally have never seen a Aro that small .

Me too. I would imagine at that size even the tetras would pose a threat. I dont think ive ever seen a 2 inch poly either lol
