* I MEANT INHUMANE* I know at some point you've heard how it's being called inhumane to breed, and sell Blood Parrots because of their enlarged swim bladder and mouth shape. The certain breeding that causes this is between the Midas Cichlid & Redhead Cichlid but Severum's, and Red Devil's have been bred to make sure their mouth is able to open. Is this inhuman to have Blood Parrots with these Deformities? Just starting a discussion...

Yes, any hybridization should be banned. When species are going extinct in the wild for various reasons we as hobbiest can help maintain the viability of a return through our private breeding programs. The hybrids spoil the gene pool. And they are incredibly ugly too.

I agree with you on the point where they spoil the gene pool but, not on the point that they are ugly those bright colored and derpy looking fish are what brings new people into the hobby which inevitable the hobby needs too grow and continue.

That's true. Lots of people are attracted to their color, We need all the hobbyists we can get!

I'm not sure about all the facts around this but I will say that the color dyes used and the tattooing is horrible.

I've owned two blood parrots in the past and even tho they had great personality , they both struggled to eat. one of them had to be euthanized because it started floating against its will and swimming in circles over night.

Needless to say I will never buy another. Just doesn't feel right to me personally.

I'm sorry you, and the fish had to go through that experience. I have Blood Parrot's and haven't experienced them floating against it's will.

It's not just cross breeding of cichlids. This tattooing that goes on is sickening, and I think these man made glo-fish are horrendous too. And have you seen what we've done to goldfish over the years?

If it's these type of colourful and wacky frankenstein variants that are bringing new people into the hobby, then demand is going to make it worse.

Typical humans, we have to mess with everything.

We humans like to try to say that we aren’t animals while we are literally animals, we separate ourselves from every other species and put our own species on a pedestal and then we try to apply our morals to other animals. Who are we to say what is right or wrong? Does right and wrong truly exist or is it something we made up? I am in no place to speak on the topic so I withhold any answers.

I said the above as it was my thoughts, I am not opening the floor for a debate on ethics and whatnot.

Well here is some optimistic candy for someone maybe its the next step in animal evolution ?‍♂️
Also for those who say hybrids are unnatural it is actually completely natural, as a matter of fact humans (homo sapiens sapiens) are in fact a hybrid species deny it all you want but the majority of all humans are hybrids between homo sapiens and Homo neanderthalensis. I’m pretty sure their is some homo erectus in the human gene pool too.

I mean fish naturally make hybrids in nature as well. The only reason making a hybrid fish now with the Blood Parrot would be considered inhumane, or unethical would be because that we allowed for it to be put on the market in the hobby with these known ''deformities'' that make their life so much harder. But making hybrids aren't wrong as long as they don't affect the fish in negative ways.
