i get the thought but imo , the argument is moot , who is going to regulate it ? china?not hardly .. and even if they did the breeders will find a way to change address (to an unregulated country), and then hobbyists will have to deal with the black market...they are here .. and who says their lives suck ? i have one that's about 8-9 yo.. that's a better life span than lots of "pure " bred fish that are way to inbred in the hobby these days ...i actually support the thought that *if* as a known fact, that bp's are "suffering" then breeding should not occur .. but it is what it is , and it ain't going to change.. hell, congress can't even come up with a plan to save the economy , we got lots of "bigger fish to fry" these days.. but like i say *in theory* i support the thought ( of protecting the species from suffering)....
Not a argument but a discussion, that obviously needed to be spoken about. I agree with all of your points and just creating conversation for me!

Yeah I agree with you on that is why culling exists too get rid of the animals that are inherently suffering and I propose we do a petition threw the means of mfk and our fellow hobbyists too make sure these animals that are suffering too not be in the US
Me as well!
What grade are you in?

I'm not in a ''grade''. I'm a male pursuing a Associates Degree to be a RN. I'm in college.

Yes, any hybridization should be banned. When species are going extinct in the wild for various reasons we as hobbiest can help maintain the viability of a return through our private breeding programs. The hybrids spoil the gene pool. And they are incredibly ugly too.
I don’t think hybrids should be banned, everyone feels different about hybrids and should not be stopped from pursuing what they enjoy about this hobby. Stores just need to be much better about educating their customers about what they’re buying and do the best they can not to sell a hybrid to someone that can’t care for it and might release it. I will say that places like petsmart should not be selling hybrids of any type. I remember Walmart selling the valentines BP which pissed me off.

We humans like to try to say that we aren’t animals while we are literally animals, we separate ourselves from every other species and put our own species on a pedestal and then we try to apply our morals to other animals. Who are we to say what is right or wrong? Does right and wrong truly exist or is it something we made up? I am in no place to speak on the topic so I withhold any answers.

I said the above as it was my thoughts, I am not opening the floor for a debate on ethics and whatnot.
I feel the exact same way

Some people, and Animal Rights Activists are saying we should ban the selling of these fish. Also making statements that we should closely examine what we crossbred and if, or how it affects the fish to better stop this problem from ever happening again.
Animal rights advocates won’t be satisfied until all exotic pets are banned. So I don’t worry about them

the thing about that , they ought to spend more time actually saving whales , dolphins, abused household pets ect ... currently they spend more on recruiting donors with sob story late nite commercials than actually doing good , these guys keep 90 cents on the dollar for administration (iow somebody is getting RICH) while animals suffer (and i don't think hybrid fish suffer any more than any other fish in the hobby) .. don't let em fool you , it's all revenue generation...

I don't believe that BPs are hybrids.
I believe they are simply deformed mutants that instead of being humanely culled, certain deformities have been encouraged to produce what some people believe are sellable odd traits, in the same manner as balloon goldfish have been made, or certain dog breeds are produced.

I have mixed feelings on bps.
I think that blood parrots are a mess, but there is something charming about them, mostly personality and color. I have seen plenty more fit than some purebred fish. If bred properly and not given worse genes than they do have, they can be a completely “normal” fish.

Also, I saw something mentioned on glofish. They aren’t inhumanely made at all. They are genetically modified to have a bioluminescent gene. The glowing is hereditary, and they live like normal (glow in the dark) fish.
