Ryan029 , so sorry for your loss. You did what you could for the ornate and I'm sure it appreciated it. It's really hard to have pets pass. My favorite ornate recently passed too. Although, it's taken me a while, sometimes the only thing you can do is move forward. The ornate would want you to be happy. We are here for you!
Alright, so today I decided to check out a different lfs than I do regularly, and had such a pleasant surprise. It turned out to be an absolutely immaculate store and it had some of the best looking fish I've ever seen in a store. I asked an employee if they had and poly's and of course they had many many different kinds....So after speaking with the shop owner a bit about what they had been feeding and how long these poly's had been in store for, I walked out with not 1 but 2 new poly's. Still a bit freaked from the last incident but I really would like to figure this thing out. So I am now the proud owner of a Delhezi and a Teugelsi Bichir, super excited about it too! The owner told me that these poly's had been in store for about 2 months and had grown considerably since they first got them. He said that their current diet consists only of blood worms and this stuff called "Good Heart" which is made in Germany. I have never heard of the stuff but I bought some just so that I could keep things as smooth as possible for these fellas. I intend to introduce Tilapia to their diet right away (as discussed) and see how that goes, then the plan is to introduce the Hikari carnivore pellets quickly after that. These poly's are considerably bigger than my first one, i'd say a good 3/4 of an inch larger, so I'm hoping that'll help my odds of success.
One down side, my QT tank is currently housing a few rummy nose tetra's that I can't move out yet (i'm not convinced they are healthy). So I couldn't QT these bichirs. They looked so good that I really don't feel that scared about them having an illness, though the risk is obviously there. I ended up just doing my usual drip acclimation for about 20 minutes and treated with salt during that time. They are now into the 40 gallon and have been doing okay from what I can tell. I was going to offer them some food tonight and see how it goes.
You all have been so helpful and encouraging to me! Thanks very much. Here's the pics!
Like the teug and the del! They look great. Glad to hear that they were eating at the store. Also Glad to hear you are back on the poly wagon! Can't wait for lots of updates and pictures.
