Are guppies really that easy to breed?

Tbh , I did this for months with guppies. It wasn’t as great as I was expecting really. It took almost 3 months before they actually started having their first batches. I had 3 males and 10 females. Once the first batch started then they were quite regular. But really long process for a few teeny tiny little fish. It almost took 2-3 months for them to be an edible size. And there were only about 20-30 left

I picked up a pair of breeding jewels and I have had them for about 2 months and I have roughly 100 that are just about the size of a full sized guppy. Btw I paid $15 for the jewels and almost $50 for all the guppies. I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to see the value difference here, but the jewels are much neater to watch.

In my experience, it's quite difficult to breed and grow out enough livebearers, including guppies, as food. It takes literally months for a guppy to go from newborn to 1-2". Months.

Much easier is to culture red wiggler worms (AKA composting worms). It's easy, all you need is a rubbermaid bin and - in warm temps - they can double in a month. I've been culturing them in a bin in my fishroom for years. They're safe, high in protein and eat our kitchen veggie, fruit and paper waste.
