Wow, if you had to quit poopsmart then you may want to wear gloves at home for a while just a thought! This is a first for me and I would think that one problem is probably creating another problem so this may just be the case that whatever you have may be iritating the fish. IMO... but I work in the medical field and I myself have exema and I have never heard of this type senerio before. I would love to find out what your Diagnosis is when they and if they find out. I will ask around to a few of the Doctors I work with and see if they may have ever encounterd anything like this in the past. Keep us posted. Now your peeking my intrest on a personal level. (Medical information is my world.)
If I could find a doctor that had even the slightest hint, I would definitely tell everyone. I google the symptoms and tons of people have similar problems. Nobody ever knows the diagnosis though. Its just an evergoing thread of the same statements, "I have it too! I have had it for X amount of time, and they crack, peel, bleed, feel raw, and then new thin layer heals over them." I went to a dermatologist, alergist, pediatrician (saw me since I was young so they figured he would have the best records of my health), school clinic, and one more doctor in St Louis.
All just shrugged their shoulders and gave up (except the dermatologist who wouldn't admit defeat and in the end said it was because I was rubbing my fingers together, but I was only rubbing them because he gave me this stupid ointment, so thats entirely circular logic).
Oh did I mention I don't have any fingerprints?
Crap, topic topic topic...
Ok believe it or not, I think I have the answer. It took some deduction, but like a scooby doo mystery I think it is solved.
I think it was hole in the head because I tested the water again and the nitrates were at 40. Now I know thats not high, but let me continue. I gravel vac'd the tank and pretty much nothing came into the bucket. The "dirty" water was maybe as dark as green tea, it hada little discoloration, but nothing like the old water changes on the 75.
Anyway I got to thinking that I hadn't cleaned the canister filter out since I bought the dang tank (december I believe). I took it out and boy did it look like the inside of a car engine. It was chock full of sludge. The bio chem stars were almost brown along with the Matrix stones. I got some cups of the tank water and swished it all around to get it off. I did the same with the foam, but left the filter floss on the top (water polishing pad).
Ok now here is my hypothesis. Get ready for this. THe jaguar spends most of his time on the right side of the tank under his little fake stump. He built a very nice gravel hill on each side. Well that area happens to be the place where the filter intake and spray bar are located. I figured that he is right next to the place where the poop is all stored at and the others are farther down the tank closer to teh emperor 400 (on the very left side of the tank which isn't very dirty at all).
Well since he is right next to where the concentrated nitrates are I figured he is constantly getting blasted with not-so-fresh nitrate filled canister and even though overall the tank doesn't have many ppm of nitrate, its as if the jag is sitting in all of it.
I put it back on, and I am going to make it a habit to do filter maintenece every month just to make sure its alright.
I will probably cut down to feeding once a day from now on as well.
I think this is just a possibility. I have not ruled anything out, but I just came to this conclusion that its highly probable.
