Are Jardini less jumpy? Also, why is my Jar swimming diagonally??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
because adding meds to a tank with out a disease can actually cause more harm than what it was meant to fix.

My silver does this stuff all the time, has since a baby....Hes also very conceited, sits there and stares at his reflection in the tank when the moon lights are on....its quite funny, swims up and down the glass starin at himself like dogs do with mirrors...its quite funny.. but i think the swimming at a 45 either way is normal, i think they just choose to do it.

Swiming at 45 deg is not normal.....Melafix probably wont help. Maybe try an epsom salt treatment 0.1% strengh, this will purge aro and help him regain equalibrium. 30% water change first slowly add salt over one day, treat for 3 days, then do 30% water change and add salt to the changed amount. 3 more days then 30 % water change every other day to remove salt. Keep feeding to minimum.

Re-reading my initial post perhaps I was a little unclear. He doesn;t swim at forty five degrees in a nose up or down position but is leaning over to the left or the right as if he is studying the bottom of the tank for something with one of his eyes. He too stares at his reflection in the glass.
If it gets to the stage where is doesn;t look like something he is doing purposefully I'll go down the epsom salt route. Thanks for the suggestion?

Yes.....Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt). Without seeing the fish in person diagnosing is very hard....this sound like a swim bladder disorder caused by diet. I don't want you putting anything in your tank unless you feel it is necessary. Aros are very hardy and in most cases good water and diet is all that is needed, however sometimes help is required. This is the treatment I would use on my aros........I am only suggesting to help.;)

I shall try it on my green when i get hold of epson salt ... cos mine is swiming at 45 degrees - nose down. While he does not seem bothered by it, it is not very sightly =(

Separate tank treatment of course ...
