Don't have to hate on the haters. It is nice to see haters and lovers of oscars in the same thread. Makes it more interesting to see how other people view oscars whether negative or positive. And this is a poll, like people voting so you would get different views.

And don't start hating me, it is just my opinion and my 2 cents.

i like oscars, they are not my favorite fish, but i dig them all the same, they have great personalities and grow very fast.

I love my oscar, but there are moments I want to strangle him. In general, I love oscars. I had an albino for a while that was the ugliest and grumpiest fish I had ever met. He was stunted because his previous owner kept him in a thirty gallon too long. His face was flattened with an under-bite and extra buggy eyes. It looked like the fish version of a bulldog. I had hoped to keep him as a mate for my red oscar, but he started beating him up almost as soon as I added it to the tank. When I had them separated, I would walk up to the tank and the albino one would open its mouth and give me the ugly face big time. Some are oscars are great, but not all of them.

Oscar's are great fish. They're readily available, extremely hardy, intelligent and beautiful. I think people that dislike them are just taking them for granted. Here's a fish that's very forgiving to new hobbyist's and full of personality. They learn to recognize you fairly quickly are always begging and are very willing to breach to get food. lol! I think it's because they're so common place that no one appreciate's their beauty. Oscar's that look bad usually do because the owner isn't taking good care of them. The Oscar eats everything and alot of people run with that, never thinking how it's gonna affect the fish and it's overall look. There's only one reason I personally don't keep them at the moment and it's because they would out compete my present fish for food. If ever I free up a tank I'd be more than happy to dedicate it to a O.

oscars are a very simple fish for beginners to own. I've NEVER seen a veteran "aquarist" with Oscars...ever....

There are plenty of veteran keepers who have Oscars, just because something is simple doesn't mean it isn't worth while...some of the best things in life are the simple things.

Dogs are mans best friend, and Oscars are like Dogs Underwater. Whats not to love? You can teach them tricks, feed them pretty much anything, and they love you back! What a fantastic fish! They even bite the hands of any kid that wants shove their hand in the tank!

I don't like them all that much for two reasons - They'll eat just about anything that can fit in their mouths and I'm not too keen on the majority of their color patterns.

With that said, I would however love to get a Lemon Oscar but can't because once he/she grew up they would make a meal out of my yoyo loaches. The Lemon's IMO are beautiful, and I do like the Oscar personality...but not gonna risk my yoyos as they are like watching a comedy act in my tank.

oscars are like foreplay, nice in the beginning then just boring :P

lol jokes jokes, i keep them but the wow factor dissapears, you just want them to grow quicker.

my rtc/tsn is way more fun though
