ok so a thought is bounced around the ole noggin and thought i would wonder aloud here , and see what you guys think . hopefully without ruffling any feathers err.. i mean losing any scales lol

ok so i know that fish can be farmed indoors in aquaculture for food right ? i would imagine if i really wanted to i could probably grow some Tilapia or some other fish species , in my basement or garage or where ever . to be ate .

is there any reason that the tropical fish we raise in our aquariums would not be edible ? aside from some fugu puffers or other such poisonous critter lol ?

maybe from the food we are feeding them ? pellets for an example ? or any other reason , medication we might have treated with along the way possibly another reason ?

A lot of the medications we use in our tanks state that i shouldnt be used on fish for Human Consumption due to it possibly being toxic to us...

So unless you in theory go out and catch a wild talipa yourself, and raise it in a tank with 0 chems etc, its always going to be a risk

ok ... i wonder if a fish was medicated some were along the way . say when they were very small , by say something like malachite , which i dont think we would want to eat lol . does it grow out of the fish ? if the fish was exposed to this when very samll say 5 inches and then grown out to 15 or 20 inches would it be safe is there anyway to find out info on this kinda stuff ? anyone happen to know ?

Depending on where you live, I'd wager fish from your fishtank are as safe or possibly even safer than stuff that you'd catch fishing locally. I live in Pennsylvania so some of our rivers are pretty sketchy when it comes to industrial waste from all the manufacturing that went on. So unless you used a TON of medication, I'd say it's fairly safe.

Now, that being said, I'd have a hard time bringing myself to eat a fish I grew out!

Just purchase your tilapia from a credible aquaculture/aquaponic hatchery dealing in edibles, those fish have been raised in food safe enclosures without the use of toxic chemicals

lol yes ! of coarse , i dont know if i could actually bring myself to it but... it would be one way to enjoy keeping many different species , to observe and learn about .
without feeling i am doing a disservice to the animal kingdom . by keeping a species that i know i cant truly house for its life time . as long as it wasnt an endangered species or something . this way it would also provide a food source i farmed my self like i said just a wondering that came to mind as i was watching my lovely fish lol

Without a doubt unless heavily medicated. They're tasty I know that. I went fishing in Florida and the guys I was with did a fish fry with some fish they had in the fridge. Turns out they fed us Oscar, Midas, Mayans, and I believe redtail cat.

We caught tons of these, but it just never crossed my mind that these were on the menu. They showed us the pics later.

One must also consider our fish live in a closed in system, so unlike in nature, medicines may also linger longer in our tanks?
