  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They seem to be fairly common in some shops in Cali, that is where the batch was last year, as well as some black ear pangasius which are very similar.

That indeed is a beautiful fish. It's a shame to do what most people will do and put one in a tank far too small for it.

These fish get over 5 feet long and weigh in at over 700 lbs.

It really needs some space that very few people will give it. The fact that it's endangered makes it all the more shameful. Obviously I'm guessing, but ignoring ponds, I don't think there are a thousand private owners (maybe less than 100) in this country that have a tank that could properly house this fish as an adult.

Kind of like buying a leopard and sticking it in a dog cage.

You should consider that these fish are Critically Endangered.

You may need a permit?

IMHO any activity that promotes the keeping of an endangered species is not a good idea.
Whille I agree with that AND think a larger specimen to start out with is rather ridiculous, if it weren't for captive breeding a lot of species wouldn't exist right now. Going through the right channels is the way to do it, get necessary permits, and eventually you might end up nationally funded if you're successful with the species you're working with.....I'd rather do that than go fund myself lol

Wonder why the sea lamprey is on the list its salt water so if set loose it wouldn't survive in the freshwater
Is that why they invaded the Great Lakes? :(
