Are pure Rays a thing of the past?

I would still like to know how the Asian arows are tracked as they can be falsified and lied about as well correct? What system do they use to chip the arows?

It's not in a farms best interest to lie about a fish

On the article 10 cities import export papers it only states red or gold aro
Red aro covers all reds high and low grade
Gold covers all golds high and low grade
The farm then issues a cert stating the type of aro gold xback red tail gold
Reds banjar 1.5 super red chilli red blood red
Then flash names are added to the cert along with chip number

All the bigger named aro farms do buy fish in and sell them under the farm name

This is why I don't think chipping would work on rays as they are not regulated by any import export laws
Brazil would need to micro chip every quota then we would know which wild stock the pups came from and the breeder would need to issue a generation pedigree much like dogs

This will never happen and I think to even try to put this in place may draw unwanted attention to putting restrictions in place
Yes it would be nice to know the pups bloodline but surely that's the whole point in finding a breeder you trust

This is another reason I think hybrids are good as the buyer isn't that concerned about the bloodline as they are buying on looks alone

That's exactly my intention! I would like to microchip the rays I may breed , if I ever do that in the future. I was meaning microchipping instead of chipping in previous post- sorry!
My intention is to make a kind of document for each pup produced , containing details like species, population, and pictures of the progenitors. Kind of a pedigree as you stated so well, T1Karmann.
Can't see why that will never happen.

We are saying it won't happen because you could so easily lie about the rays, not saying you would lie but you could if you wanted to and just put whatever info you wanted to on the pedigree and put a chip in a ray that really isn't a descendent of the rays you say it is.

Farms can chip and hobbiests really can't. That is why it wouldn't be done.

look at Asian aros. How many of them come from farms? Now how many of them hobbiests that spawned them in their private home? You'll see 99.99% come from the farms. It is almost impossible to find a privately in home bred aro.

Now do the same with rays. I can find 8 people in my state alone that have bred or are breeding rays.

Yes and in the U.S. at least I don't think there are really any stingray farms? Sure some bigger breeders but nothing I would give a farm status to. Now I don't know about Asia and ray farming so that may be a different story.

The microchip is just a pipe dream

Dog chipping and Arowana chipping has been running many many years and even they don't confirm the bloodline they are just away to id the fish when it comes into a country or with a dog to track down its owner if it's lost or stolen

Nice idea but it's just a idea

I totally agree with you, Keister. Every breeder of any fish could potentially lie about that. What makes a breeder/ seller trustable is the good reputation. And the reputation is built over honesty, good quality animals and so on. In time, the beginner with such atributes will make his/her way through the market, and establish there as a good reputable , trustable person. We have seen that happens some times, haven't we?
On the other hand, if a breeder/ seller have a bad reputation, due to selling the wrong fish, for instance, the market will not accept him easily.
I guess that's no good to be known as a bad reputable breeder. So lies aren't very advantageous if one wants to prosper, are them?

I really can't see why it's not possible to create a pedigree for cb rays, just like is done for dogs and other animals.

Besides, my aspiration is to have cb pups, with clipped stings and already feeding on pellets . Something that's near impossible with wc rays, as they must have the right size to be collected and to be sold.
I can't even imagine a collector / exporter keeping a stock of pups available.

About microchipping, I guess, they can be used to tell apart a cb from a wc ray, as stated by T1KARMANN. Because I can't believe that a collector would mind about that.
To confirm the bloodline, I guess elaborated documents could work.

So, my aspiration is to make wild , pure captive bred genes available to the market. Time will tell

I like the look of most hybrids (black´s)

but there isent any fish like a pure 13. and thats why i breed them. (you see BD´s BD/leo/hen on all stocklists but non pure p13)

That's because a lot are exported from Asia now when they trow loads of different rays in one pond

Pure bd wouldn't probably be on a list that is issued to the average trader as the prices would be high
All the hybrids you see on lists are probably ones that could fetch the high $$

pure breed is nice
hybrid can be nice too
both hv their own market and followers
so the comparison in my opinion is of not much meaning
